Multicultural Playgroup 0-5 Years
BSCT “Multicultural Playgroup” aims to provide a fun learning environment for your precious little ones and prepare them for their future. We aim to provide a place for parents and young children to meet on a regular basis and provide a range of educational activities to foster children’s learning and development consistent with the NZ ECE curriculum – Te Whariki. Children are encouraged to play alongside with each other, developing early social skills that are essential for later life. This helps in developing their self-esteem and gain confidence in their first independent steps from home.
We operate every Monday – Wednesday from 10:00am to 12:30pm at BSCT ACTIVITY CENTRE 13 May Road, Mt Roskill, Auckalnd 1041. There are no commercial costs involved in our services.
Language and Cultural Classes for Children
The Children and Youth Wing of Bhartiya Samaj runs regular free Language and Cultural Classes every Sunday between 10:30 am and 1:30pm to promote and retain the cultural heritage and values of our great motherland India. These classes are completely free and all teachers teach on voluntary basis. The hallmark of BalVikas Classes is that the programme is conducted under the guidance of Education Chairperson Ms Roopa Suchdev, by teachers who are very knowledgeable, sincere, devoted and have tremendous commitment.
The main aim of the Balvikas is to foster overall personality development, discipline and cultivation of humility, respect, core human values and selfless service. The activities conducted are national anthem recitation, yoga and exercises, computer workshops, music lessons, dance workshops and innovative craft. Children are encouraged and provided opportunities such as enacting in dramas, participating in singing, dancing, public-speaking and many more such activities to develop and gain self-confidence as well as attain excellence.
Annual Summer Camp
Each year we organize a Summer Camp for the Children and Youth of the Community which is aimed at promoting emotional development and enrichment of the young minds. The entire focus is on imparting skills like personality development, leadership, community involvement and tolerance/ understanding of multiple cultures and ethnicities, at an early age.
The five days at the Summer Camp are filled with fun activities and workshops related to arts, crafts, drama, yoga, life enrichment skills, developmental games and a full day outing. For the entire five days our volunteer teachers, trainers and coach’s come in at various times to devote their skills and knowledge for the development of the young minds.
The building block of our next generation ‘Youth’ are in the period of transition from dependence of childhood to adulthood’s independence and awareness. We hone their skills for selfless commitment to service. Our Youth Empowerment intiatives include Youth Camps and Advisory Forums by providing Leadership and Career Development Programs. We ensure their indulgence in understanding different religions, cultures and ethnicities as this will lead into smoother integration into New Zealand lifestyle. We also encourage them to pick volunteer opportunities to address community needs.
Migrant Settlement and Support
Since time immemorial, people have taken great risks for themselves and future generations, leaving their countries behind in search of a better life. We know that settling into a new country and community is not always easy. It takes time to adjust to a new environment, culture or language.
Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust assists migrants with settling into their new life in the Auckland and surrounding region. We provide a variety of services to those who have just arrived, through to those who have been here for years but still experience difficulty navigating or accessing government services, education or employment. We strive to see migrants settled, and be an active part of the community.
We assist the new settlers in following manner:
- Regular workshops on Job search tips and Resume building
- Assisting in finding a good accommodation
- Induction to various rules, regulations and byelaws in NZ
- Assistance in access to social and health services
- Regular Skill Development Workshops
Our relentless services towards the community also allows us to provide complete support to distressed and vulnerable women, especially those who are left stranded with minimum or no assistance available. We try our level best to provide a solution to their problems and make every effort their issues are addressed.
Elder Support Program
We have about 1000 + Senior Citizen members subscribed to our services. As a regular service, every fortnight we organise a community meeting for our Senior Citizens at Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall. These meetings provides members from South Asian migrant communities a platform to engage with each other for lending mutual support, better learning, socializing and awareness.
Our Community Grievance Support Programs have always been helpful in resolving issues for vulnerable people and especially those in dire need with no resort available for assistance. These Initiatives have always provided help and support to distressed families. Many families have benefited from our support initiatives and are happy to extend our services to serve the community better.
